An Interview with Anne Fowler, Author of The Truths We’ve Carried

I’m pleased to welcome back author Anne Fowler for an interview and spotlight on her latest release. The Truths We’ve Carried is a unique and diverse collection of true stories shared by a group of women in their eighties.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Title: The Truths We’ve Carried

Author: Anne Fowler

Genre: True Life Stories

BLURB:

This is a unique book titled The Truths We’ve Carried. It’s a collection of life experience stories recounted by my fellow octogenarians; other ladies in their eighties who have “lived” the events described.

I warn you to expect the unexpected; it will definitely not read as you thought! The variety and depth of the content is really quite extraordinary. Here is a “taste” of some of topics you’ll read about:  escape from Dachau, a clandestine romance, my plane was hijacked, I climbed Mt. Everest, lunch with Elvis  and there are 53 more!

Welcome!

What was the inspiration behind your latest release?
It happened after several conversations with older ladies who’d read my memoir I’ve Worn Many Hats. They were giving me their opinion and several of them said, ”I always wanted to write about some things that happened in my life but never had the opportunity.”

So I started thinking….…what if I were to gather some of their stories and produce a collection?  I then posted a challenge on Face Book inviting women over 80 to submit their stories.

Life experiences that they’d “lived”

Where do you get your ideas?
In this book the stories were those of the women who lived the experiences. I simply assisted them in putting it all together!

In my memoir, memories in my head!

When did you begin writing?
I used to write plays for my friends in elementary school but until I wrote my memoir at age 80, I had never written an actual book unless you include several fund raiser cookbooks!

How many hours do you dedicate each day towards writing?
When I was writing, about 4 hours a day.

What has been your biggest challenge?
For this book?  Developing the method of receiving the stories from fellow octogenarians who in many cases were even less computer literate than me. The actual back story of “how” we did it is a story in itself!!

What does literary success mean to you?
The financial rewards from both my books all go to support my work in Honduras.

What project are you currently working on?
I am in Honduras for my annual 6- month period so other than responding to questions about The Truths We’ve Carried and doing several spotlights/profiles, I’m working on preparation for my yearly school dental program run by our  three Canadian dental teams.  Plus oversee other assorted community projects that I’m involved in.

AUTHOR BIO:

I am a retired Canadian who grew up in Toronto and for more than 30 years my career was focused on Human Resources. In 2000, I closed my company and “retired” to pursue philanthropic projects in Honduras, a country where I now spend six months of each year. Please visit my web site to view the community programs that I initiated. You will see that I am a VERY active senior!!! http://anne.honduranhope.net/

In 2021, at age 80, I published my first book, a memoir titled I’ve Worn Many Hats. Never once did I believe that I had it in me to write another book! Until I did…. and published The Truths We’ve carried in 2025.

October, 2026 I will enter the next stage of my life as I begin the last 6 months of living in Honduras. I am satisfied that the work I began 25 years ago will continue under the capable hands of our team members.

I have two children, two grandchildren, two grand dogs and outlived two ex husbands. My very full life has taken me down roads I never expected to travel… some filled with interesting, but risky, adventures. I’ve been accorded unforeseen opportunities both in business and my personal life, blessed with a loving family, supportive friends and the belief that I am following the path that God intended.

Life is good!
